The Brooklyn Chewing Gum cycling team made its name during the 1970s and early '80s. It was an Italian team built around results in the classics and achieved success mainly in the form of four victories in Paris-Roubaix. Each of these victories were courtesy of "Mr. Paris-Roubaix", Roger de Vlaeminck, a Flandrian who's achievements were made even more significant by the fact that his career ran in parallel to that of the great Eddy Merckx.
De Vlaeminck's victories in Roubaix were all the more attractive, subconsciously at least, because he was lucky enough to wear one of the most iconic cycling shirts of all time. The Brooklyn jersey featured an American theme that was adopted via a brand identity campaign by the Italian chewing gum manufacturers that sponsored the team. This striking and unforgettable design gave rise to the now iconic race jersey that is now often voted as one of the most popular to have ever graced the peloton.
I've celebrated this iconic jersey with my 70s Roubaix hooded sweatshirt. My soft and supple hand screen prints complement the 85% organic cotton, 15% recycled polyester blend to grant a classic aesthetic and unrivaled comfort. A plush, double layer hood, raglan sleeves, ribbed hems, half-moon finished rear-neck and taped neck seam work perfectly in tandem with the French Terry material to promote a garment that is perfect for any casual occasion.
This hoodie adheres strictly to the Fair Wear Foundation regulations that ensure fair and safe working conditions for the workers who manufacture the base garment.
